NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME. The 1914 New Zealand croquet championships will bo decided in Christchurch at the Firth Annual Tournament of the Canterbury Croquet Association during Christmas. The tournament will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 25, and play will be resumed not later than 10 a.m. each day till the tournament is finished. Entries, accompanied by the fees, must reach the tournament secretary not later than December 19, and no entry will on any account bo received after this date. The Canterbury championships will be decided at the same tournament, play to commence at the same time as the New Zealand championships. The programme is as under: —• New Zealand Open Championship; open to players of both sexes within and beyond the Dominion. Tho winner will be styled the "Croquet Champion of New Zealand,'' and wi 11 hold for one year the challenge cup presented by Mr J. W. Lill, president of the Association. New Zealand Ladies' Open Championship; open to ladies within and beyond the Dominion. The winner will be styled the "Lady Champion of New Zealand,i' and will hold for one year the challenge trophy presented for this event by Mr Murray-Aynsley. New Zealand Doubles; open to any pair, of the required status, within or beyond the Dominion. Each member of the winning pair will hold for one year one of the challenge shields, jointly presented by Mr S. S. Blaekburne, Mr E. G. Rawnsley, and Mr N. H. Macfarlane. New Zealand Handicap; open to players within and beyond the Dominion. Canterbury Championship; open to all associates. The winner will be styled the "Croquet Champion of Canterbury," and will k-okl for one year the challenge cup presented by Mr C. H. Croxton. The cup will become the property of anyone who wins it three times in succession. Canterbury Ladies' Championship; open to all lady associates. The winner will hold for one year the challenge trophy presented for this event by Mrs Murray-Aynsley. The trophy will become the property of anyone who wins it three times in succession. Canterbury Club Pairs; open to associates only. Partners must be members of the same club, belonging to the association, and the entry will be treated as representative of tbjf club named therein. A partnership may consist of either a lady and a gentleman, or two ladies, but not two gentlemen. Canterbury Handicap; open to all associates. No one who enters for the New Zealand Handicap may enter for this event. Every effort will be made to get these handicaps-through on the first two days of the tournament. In the New Zealand ©vents the internal width of the hoops used will be 33in,.and in the Canterbury events <lin. The' tournament grounds will be those of the' United Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club in Hagley Park. No player may compete in more than- three Canterbury events or in more than four events* altogether.
