TENNIS.
ANOTHER LYTTELTON CLUB. A meeting was held in the schoolroom of St. Saviour's Church, Lyttelton, last evening to consider the matter of forming a new tennis club at the port. There was a good attendance of ladies and gentlemen, over whom the Rev. E. Eliot Chambers presided. The question of reviving the old club, which has been in decadence for some time, was discussed, but when the financial position' was fully explained it was decided that the liabilities accumulated in the past would form too heavy an incubus.
It was therefore resolved that a new club be formed and that it be called the Te Whaka Tennis Club. The following officers were elected:— President, Kev. E. Eliot Chambers; vice-presidents, Drs Upham, Newall, and Guthrie; secretary, Mr J. Gardiner; treasurer, Captain J. M. Scott; management committee, Miss Look, Mesdames Comer and Young, Messrs G. Moon and Eadcliffe; tea committee, Messrs Matheson and Murray, Mesdames Plimmer and Weastall.
An application will be sent to the next meeting of the council for the use of the courts at West Lyttelton, and a further meeting will be held next .'Wednesday evening. At the conclusion the names of fifty ladies and gentlemen were handed in as intending members.
