BAND OF HOPE UNION CONTESTS.
EIGHTH NIGHT. The Canterbury Band of Hope Union's Competitions were continued in the Choral Hall last evening. The attendance was not so large as the programme deserved. The chief items were:—Recitation, Class B (17 performers facing the judge), pianoforte solos, class C, cornet solos, and vocal quartets, classes D and E. The following are Monday night's prize-winners:—
Pianoforte solo, class C: Miss E. V. Lomas (Madras Street) 87 marks 1, Miss B. A. Clarke (Moorhouse Avenue) 83 marks 2, Miss Eileen Gee (Sydenham United) 78 marks .3. Vocal solo, class E, male: Mr S. H. Clo-' thier (Linwood) 87 marks 1, Mr \V. J. Mason.(Moorhouse Avenue) 82 marks 2. Sacred solo, female: Miss L. ■ Yelvin (Oxford Terrace) 79 marks 1, Mi>s O. B. Harris (Richmond) 77 marks 2. Club competition, section I: Crescent Road 98 marks 1; section 11, Selwyn Street South 121 marks 1.
Recitation, class E, ladies: Mrs B. \V. Harris (Sydenham United) 78 marks 1, Miss A. Eldridge (Avonside) 73 marks 2, Miss E; J. Lucas (Crescent Road) 70 marks 3. To-night a well-varied programme will' he given, consisting of impromptu speeches, vocal solos, class C (female), Band of Hope oral address, dumhhells (female), aoid vocal solo, class D (male).
