"VIOLET DAY." MEETING OF LADIES. A meeting of ladies was held in the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's rooms yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of selling violets for the-Poor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Relief Fund. Amongst those present were: —Miss Tabart (organiser of the meeting), Mesdames Boyle, H. Buchanan, Dalgety, R. Hennah, B. Lane, J. Palmer, F. C. Raphael, Pyne, and G;

Scott, and Misses Tabart (2), MurrayAynsley, Crosby, and Burns. Mrs Pyne was voted to the chair on the motion of Miss Tabart. The following were added to the committee, as well as -those present: Lady Clifford, Mrs G. Rhodes, Mrs M. Campbell, Mrs D. Matson, Messrs J. O. Jameson, F. C. Eaphael, and the executive of the Poor of Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Fund. After the objects of the meeting had been explained, it was resolved that violets should be .sold" in the city for the benefit of the IFuhd on Friday next. Those selling flowers, will commence at 8.45 a.m., and sell continuously all day. Corporal Mostyn, P. Jones, of B Company, Infantry Regiment, was entertained at a social gathering by a number

of his friends and presented with a wristlet watch. Corporal Jones has been associated with many sporting and athletic bodies, and he takes with him the goovl wishes of a large number of friends. Last evening at the Regimental Institute cf the C.E,M.S. and Y.M.C.A. at' # the Addington Show Grounds, a splendid concert programme was carried out by the "Merrymakers" to the number of about oQ, under the leadership of Mv Sam. Harrington. A large and appreciative audience taxed the accommodation of the institute to its utmost, and. at thq close a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers. Mr J. E.
