ACTIVITY AT ANTWERP.
PREPARATIONS FOR DEFENCE. PORTION OF COUNTRY FLOODED. (Received August 22, 5.5 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, August 21. Active preparations are being made to defend Antwerp. The woods are being cut down and villages destroyed in order to .deprive the Germans of cover. Earthworks have been thrown up in all directions, and part of the country ou+side the fortifications has been flooded. The Dover-Ostend steamers are lying at Scheldt, in readiness to remove the queen and family. Numbers of cattle, which have been driven in to Antwerp from the country are herded in the parks.
