TIMBER WORKERS.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 6. The conference of the New Zealand Timber Workers' Federation opened today. The principal business for discussion is the drawing up of demands for a Dominion award. Mr T„ O'Byrne, the retiring president, pointed out that the minimum rate as now paid in the trade is less than the minimum rates paid in other, and less dangerous and less arduous industries. Mr C. F. Meyer; of Canterbury, was elected president for . the ensiifcng year, and Mr J. Alsweiler secretary. It was decided to defer consideration of ■ attending the conference of liniowb convened by the Federation of Labour which opens to-morrow, until later in the proceedings. ,
