LEVEL CROSSINGS.
AND MOTOR CARS. NEW REGULATIONS. Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 11. A circular letter has been sent tc all local bodies by the Minister of Railways containing the new regulations governing the speed at which motor ears must approach level crossings. These provide that persons driving motor cars shall, when approaching crossings, slacken speed when within 100 yards of a crossing to a rate not exceeding 10 miles per hour, and shall stop before coming into contact with the railway line. A vigilant look-out must be kept by motorists, who shall not attempt to cross unless the line is clear.
The Department will supply distinctive warning boards if required, but it has no obligation to erect them.
