DEATH OF A PIONEER.
William Bennett, one of the "old identities," died suddenly at Kaiapoi yesterday. He was found in a very critical condition in his Home, and diet! before medical assistance was available.. The late Mr Bennett pais bom at Canterbury, Kent, in 1832,. and came to New Zealand in 1850. Two years later he took part in the goM rush to the West Coast, in which locality he resided) for many years. Later on he settled down at Kaiapoi. An inquest was held this morning, when a verdict was returned tfc»t death was due to cardiac syncope.
