THE APPROACH OF PEACE
PROBLEM OF MEXICO.
CONSTITUTIONALISTS* CONTROLLING VOICE. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Received June 11, 11.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 10. A question has arisen which is liiely to prolong the peace conference considerably. The point is how the executive power shall be transferred from Huerta to a provisional president. The Mexican delegates wish the new President to take over power as approved by the Constitution, and this means the tacit recognition of Huerta by the American Government, which objects to anything of the kind. It is thought likely via media will be found in the mediators' suggestion that the United States need not recognise any President until the Huertans and Constitutionalists both agree to accept him. The peace plan has already been agreed on tentatively. It gives the Constitutionalists a controlling voice in the new Government, and the only obstable will be the refusal of the Constitutionalists to participate in the proposed settlement.
