WELLINGTON GOSSIP.

From Our Special Correspondent. WELLINGTON, June 10. Ellen Terry is to be welcomed by the members of the Pioneer Club, and there is some talk of the Shakespeare Club members also entertaining her. Wellington is being visited just now by a "team" (their own expression) of women members of the 1.0.0. F., who have come north filled with enthusiasm and plans to establish' a strong membership in this city. On Wednesday afternoon they were welcomed by the Mayor of Wellington, being introduced by their chosen "Grand Noble," the lady so honoured being one of our best known and most popular citizens, Dr Platts Mills. The visitors include the Lady District Deputy of Christchureh, Mrs Smart, Mesdames Smart, Rentoul, Herbert, Eickard, Piper, Hitchings, and Misses Duncan, Snelling, Allison, Clarke, D. and I. Roberts, Moses, Turner, and Joughen. On Wednesday evening, after the mysterious ceremony of initiation, sixty new members, together with the visitors, sat down to a banquet.

Mrs Shirteliffe and 'her popular daughters, are the centre of this week's entertaining. On Wednesday a luncheon party was given at her residence by Mrs Donald Robertson. The guests were Mrs Shirteliffe, Mrs Salmond, Mrs Fitchett, Mrs Hassell, Mrs Easterfield, Mrs Knox, and Mrs Herdman. Golden chrysanthemums decorated the table.

An interesting engagement just announced is that of Miss Adele Marks, daughter of Mrs Lewis P. Hayman, Wellington, to Mr Henry Hayman, son of Mr Max Hayman, of London. And another pleasing engagement is announced by Mr and Mrs Newbigin, of Feilding, whose daughter Elsie is to be married to Mr Norman Beatson, of Hastings. Mrs Ernest Hadfield, president of the Reform League, gave an '< at home'' on Tuesday afternoon, to enable the newly-appointed vice-presidents and members of the committee to meet one another.
