Mr G. F. Duncan (Dunedin) is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr C. Farata, M.P., arrived from Wellington this morning. Captain Wheeler left for the north last evening. Mr J. Craigie, M.P., arrived from Wellington by the Wahine this morning. The Revs. Smith, Kear, Howes, and Radford arrived from the north by the Wahine to-day. *■ Mr and Mrs Lawrence (Dunedin) are visiting Christehurch, and are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr F. H. Dodd, late Assistant-In-spector of Post Offices, is at present on a visit to Christehurch. Mr C. J. Cooper, of Christehurch, has been appointed chairman of the Timaru Fire Board for the ensuing year. Mr Sproule, of Melbourne, has been appointed president of the Oxford University Athletic Club.—Press Association. Mr S. A. Staples, chairman of the Waimairi County Council, accompanied by Mrs Staples, arrived from the north this morning. Amongst the guests at Warner's Hotel are Messrs W. J. Pratt (Timaru), E. J. Denny (Dunedin), Ronald Tanner (Adelaide), Mr and Mrs J. L. Spicer, Miss Spicer, and Miss Lloyd (London). Mr W. R. Morris, secretary of the General Post Office, will leave New Zealand by the Niagara on July. 5 to attend the International, Postal Conference at Madrid. The death is announced of Mrs Hansen, of Waimate, aged 72, who came out to New Zealand 52 years ago in the sailing ship Victory. For the greater part of her life Mrs Hansen lived in South Canterbury. The Minister of Public Works leaves Wellington for Blenheim on Wednesday, and motors to Kaikoura on Friday. He will probably speak in Kaikoura that night. He leaves for Blenheim again oil Saturday. Last Tuesday evening a pleasant little function was held, when the Addiugton junior hockey team met and presented one of their members, Mr Claude Peters, with a silver-niounted umbrella on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The presentation was made by Mr E. R. Caygill, team captain, and Mr Peters suitably responded. Mr H. S. Cordery, president of the Canterbury branch of the Public Service Association, leaves to-night on six months' leave for Great Britain. Yesterday afternoon he was farewelled by a representative gathering of members, when Mr G. W. C. Moon, ! who presided, presented.Mr Cordery with a handsome suit .case' and wished him a pleasant trip. Mrs Cordery will accompany her husband. .:
