"HANDS UP!"

PARTY RUDELY INTERRUPTED. OUTRAGE BY MASKED MEN. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, May .5. This morning's hold-up is the most sensational for years. It occurred at 1 o'clock. _, About 20 persons were in the housecelebrating the birthday of one of the family. Suddenly a tall masked man entered, presented a revolver, and demanded *'Hands up! " The party was staggered. The masked man thou whistled, and three others appeared. The owner of the house entered a protest, but was silenced by the men, who pushed their revolvers into his face. The party stood in a semi-circle, and the intruders calmly went through their pockets. They stole £OOO in money and jewellery. One of the guests attempted to escape, but the robbers promptly fired, bringing him to a standstill. After clearing out the party, the men backed through the door, still threatening the assembly with their revolvers, boarded motor-ears, and decamped. Later detectives arrested David Kecnahan, aged 25, who was charged with assaulting and robbing one of the guests. He was remanded on bail of £I6OO. f A cable message yesterday stated: A daring outrage occurred in the early hours of this morning. Four men were playing cards in a house at Darlinghurst, when four desperadoes rushed into the room and held up the players - at the pistol point. They then rifled the house and escaped with money and jewellery valued at £200.]
