Horatio Bottomley, the proprietor, and Julius Elias, representing the printers, have been summoned for the publication of an article in "John Bull" containing a proposal and schemes for lotteries to be run in Switzerland, to be called the "Grand National Sweepstake," and the " 'John Bull' Derby
Sweep." In each case a certain sum was promised to charities.
Mr Bottomley contended that the article constituted a legitimate newspaper controversy. The case has been adjourned.
