BOXING.
MUBPHY V. lEELAND.
Press Association. NAPIER, May 5. A boxing contest at Hastings to-night between Barney Ireland (\Vaipawa) and Dennis Murphy (Wellington), for a purse of £SO and the middle-wtight championship of New Zealand (fifteen rounds), was won by Murphy on points. CHRISTCHURCH ATHLETES' CLUB. At a meeting of the Christchurch Athlete 3' Club last evening the following officials were appointed for the boxing and wrestling tourney which is to be held in the Choral Hall on Saturday evening:—Referee, Mr W. J. Moirj judges, Dr Simpson and Mr H. March; time-keepers, Messrs A. J. Carlton and R. H. Bennets; wrestling referee-, M*r J. Fingland. The tourney is to be held in aid of a fund to send a team to represent Canterbury in the Dunedin championship tug-of-war tournament. There is a possibility of another attractive item being added to the programme —a contest between the crack boxer of the R.M.S. Corinthic's crew and S. Lester, of New Brighton.
