LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
; HOTICE TO COBKESEGNDSNT. "X.Y.Z.," JLinwood.—Your letter has been referred to the writer- of the Poultry Notes iu THE SUN'S Saturday Magazine, for favourable consideration. woodman, Ware that tree. To the Editor of THE SUMT. Sir, —Some little time ago I read an article in your paper stating that the Domain Board intended applying a desecrating axe to some of the willows which hang over the Blue Pool. I felt a good deal of sympathy with the writer, and made uji my mind to. visit the place and see which of the trees were to be sacrificed. The opportune ity came the other day, and after seeing what the board proposes, I am satisfied that, if it is carried out, the stately and; v silent beauty of this lovely spot will de--part, never to return in our time. I f am sure that if lovers of the Blue.' Pool only knew what the board intendsi there, would be such a storm of protest that the board would put its axe away. 'Hi* red mark of doom.is on some fine 1 old warriors, whose age is part of their, inspiring beauty. I hope that .the .boj&wd will restrain its hand, and regard the trees as the things of beauty they are, not merely as timber which is cumber-\ ing the ground.—l am, etc., AVON.
THE TOWN HALL. To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir,—l was very much interested in Mr W.H. Cooper's idea that thd new Town Hall should be erected on,the north side df. the Avon '.''. in Victoria Square, and that part of the neeessary/ site should be purchased" by the cityi This proposal is much more likely tp appeal to the public than that whiciv contemplates the commandeering of Victoria Square. The public will not corif sent to the band rotunda - site-being*lost to the city forever, even, for a Tjpwji. Hall. I would like to suggest that Mr Cooper bTing his proposal formally before the City Council and that, if it i» rejected, he should stand for the Mayoralty at the next, election, and the question a test one. lam certain that he would command the votes' ds' hundreds who are opposed to the council's proposal.—l -am, etc., .*..
