TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH FLIGHT.
SCOTLAND'S VISIT. HOPES TO ARRIVE TO-DAY. It is expected that the young aviator, Mr J. W. H. Scotland, will arrive in Christchurch late this afternoon from Timaru, where he is giving an exhibition ffcght this afternoon. It was his intention, given favourable weather, not to land again at Timaru, but to fly straight on to Christchurch. As the day is a particularly fine one, he should have no difficulty in making the journey. He will land in the Addington showgrounds, where • his machine will be housed until Saturday, when, he gives his first exhibition flight in Christchurch.
The visit of Mr Scotland to this city will be the introduction of the latest methods of navigating, the air. After his recent successes in the south, much interest is being displayed in his coming flight at the showgrounds, which will be made between 3 and 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. During the recent flights in Dunedin last week an altitude of 2000 ft was attained, and the machine travelled at an estimated speed of over 50 miles an hour. The "Evening Star," commenting on the event, says: "It was altogether a memorable exhibition, and congratulations were hearty and heart-felt." Favourable weather conditions on Saturday should induce a very large attendance at the grounds.
