PAPATOETOE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Advice was received at the monthly meeting of the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce, held last evening, from the Auckland Electric-Power Board, that pressure of work, due to the erection of sub-stations for tram extensions and the installation of plant duo to the breakdown of Arapuni, had delayed the erection of the proposed showrooms and offices at Papatoetoe. The postmaster, Papatoetoe, reported that the request of the chamber for an earlier mail to Auckland had been granted. Mails now closed at 6.50 a.m. in lieii of 7.50. The divisional superintendent of railways forwarded a letter stating that ho would receive a deputation of delegates representing the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce and the Welfare League, in Auckland, to discuss questions in reference to improved railway services to the southern suburbs. Messrs. Ernest and Didsbury were appointed delegates. It was decided to enter a protest against the additional bank charges and the withdrawal of 10-shilling notes. Mr. H. M. Didsbury was elected vice-president in lieu of Dr. J. J. Valentine, resigned, and Mr. L. Kendall was appointed secretary. It was decided to appoint a special committee to draw up a publicity scheme, to draw' attention to the advantages Papatoetoe offers as a residential suburb.
