Championship Rugby

r-»AMMAR AND PONSONBY Good Game Promised WHENEVER Grammar Old Boys meets Ponsonby.a hard and close game generally results. Tomorrow should prove no exception to the rule when these two teams will meet in the second round of the Auckland Rugby Union’s senior championship. Ponsonby at present holds a two-point lead over Grammar and if successful tomorrow, or if the game is drawn, will win the championship. A win to Grammar will place both teams equal, in which event another game will be played.

In the first round of the competition these teams played a drawn game. Play was fast and open and full of interest. Tomorrow both teams are expected to take the field at full strength, and another keenly contested game should result. Grammar’s strength lies mainly in its powerful pack, the forwards possessing fine understanding of one another’s play. The Ponsonby pack, however, is by no means a light one, and its back division is the best in the competition Whichever way the game goes tomorrow—and it will depend largely upon to what extent the Grammar pack can control the ball —there is no doubt but that a keen, fast game will be the result.. A large attendance is expected. Although they cannot have anv bearing upon tho competition, other senior games will also be played. As a curtain-raiser to the big game. At the showgrounds two of three teams iii tho running for the third intermediate grade championship, Grammar and Grafton, will meet, i while the third contestant, Manukau, has been arranged a training match with a team of the same club. The match between Grammar and Grafton promises to bo fast and open, ns both teams rely mainly on their back divisions. In the sixth grade, the leader.
