NEW LAUNCH
BIG VESSEL FOR PASSENGER SERVICE COMPLETED RECENTLY Intended for a passenger service, a 45-foot launch, just completed, was taken from Ellerslie to Panmure yesterday and afterward towed round to Auckland. The launch, which is 45 feet long with .a beam of 12 feet. belongs to Alpha Motors, Ltd. She has been constructed during the last few months by the Invincible Boat Company. She was completed recently and yesterday the New Zealand Express Company undertook the difficult task of transporting her to Panmure. Fitted with a 23 h.p. Danish Alpha crude-oil engine of the semi-Diesel type, she should do about 10 knots and is expected to carry 100 passengers on her excursions in the harbour. The launch is as yet unnamed. She is built from heart of kauri, with pohutukawa knees throughout, and she has a wellstrengthen’ed kauri engine -bed, 12ft by Oft by 27ft. The engine bolts are of bronze. There is a one-man control at the steering wheel.
