FEW GALLOPS YESTERDAY
H. GRAY’S NEW QUARTERS? Special to THE SUN TAKANINI, Today. Envoy doing liis best was too good for Dominican over five furlongs on Thursday morning. The former is working particularly well of late, and it would bo very surprising if lie does not show up prominently in his engagements at Avondale. In his class Dominican is sure to give a good account of himself. Tamarado pulled up sore after beating Gay Cavalier over half a mile. It is bad luck for her connections that the daughter of Silverado Tamahine should bo troubled at this stage of her preparation, as her connections were looking forward to giving her a run at Avondale, which at present is now very uncertain. Gay Cavalier, who is a half-brother to Prince Lu, will be making his debut at the meeting, but cannot bo expected to be in the money just yet. King’s Speech did not please so well as Royal Survey when the pair accomplished a half-mile task. The Chief Ruler—Peut-etre filly picked them up over the concluding couple of furlongs. Gray IV!ay Go to Takanini Hector Gray has been for some time endeavouring to secure a residence in this district, and arrangements are almost completed. It is practically certain that he will make his home here. R. S. Bagby is expected back from Australia early next month. The only member of E. Pope’s team to make use of the grass track on Thursday was Rosshlre, who is getting through plenty of work in preparation for his classic engagement, next week. * Brazanna and Amber Link are doing all their work in a kindly manner, but nothing of a strenuous nature. Bugle Call is beginning to run along a little faster in his work, and will be on hand sooner than anticipated. Chief Jewel (Chief Ruler—Spangle) is creating a favourable impression, and is looking well. Roseric, too, looks a picture, and is in great order. Smithfield is in at Avondale. His track work indicates a smart effort from the Shambles —Sleepyhead gelding in the near future. FOALING REPORTED A foaling reported from the 7MI worth Stud Farm at Papatoetoe is that of the Absurd mare. Lady Cintra. whose union with the Gisborne sjre, Hunting Song, lias resulted in a bay filly. Lady Cintra formed one of F. E. Loomb's team two years ago, and was one of the few representatives of Absurd to ever win a steeplechase. Lady Cintra is at present owned by Mr. E. H. Cueksey.
