Mrs. J. C. Hardley, Auckland, is a visitor to Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. L. Deem, of Wanganui, are staying at the Central Hotel.

Mrs. Alport Barker and Miss Molly Barker, of Suva, are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. Reg. Humphries, of Remuera, left last evening for a holiday visit to Wellington. Mrs. N. H. Law and Miss M. Law, of Gonville, Wanganui, have returned homo from a visit to Auckland. Madam Edith Baird returned on Tuesday from Wellington, where she has been judging in the dancing section of the competitions. Mrs. E. H. Hamilton Armstrong, who has been spending some time in New Zealand, leaves next Tuesday by the Rangitiki for England. While in Auckland Mrs. Armstrong has madia several sketches of well-known beauty spots and these she will take with her to England. Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Hamilton Armstrong also leave by the same steamer for England. FOUR PLAYS PRESENTED ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME AT EVENING ARRANGED BY KENTISHMEN’S ASSOCIATION At a very enjoyable evening held by the Auckland branch of the Association of Men of Kent and Kentishmen, in the Cameo Club rooms yesterday, four oneact plays were presented. The plays were arranged by Mrs. F. C. Webster, they comprised “Cupid in the Kitchen,” in which parts were taken by Mrs. T. Gray, Mr. W. Jacki son and Miss Jean White; “Banns of Marriage,” played by Mr. Gaynor Jackson, Mrs. E. R. Pilkington, Miss Mary Pilkington and Mr. McKerraf; “A Matter of Course,” in which those taking part were Miss Alice Kealy and Mr. Keith MclCerras. and “Holed Out in One,” the parts being played by Mrs. F. C. Webster, Mr. F. C. Webster, Mr. Price, Miss Betty Clark and Miss Mary Clark. Incidental music was played by Miss Nora Dash and songs were given by Mrs. Gray. At the conclusion of the programme a vote of thanks was accorded the performers by Mr. F. C. Jacobs, who presided, and later supper was served by ! members of the women’s committee. DEBATING SOCIETY ANNUAL AT HOME AT PAPATOETOE The Renown Hall, Papatoetoe, was the scene of a very enjoyable function last evening, on the occasion of the* annual At Home given by members of the Papatoetoe Literary, Debating and Dramatic Club. Dancing was Indulged in to music contributed by Bullen’s Adelphi Band. Between the dances musical items were given by Misses Mabel Bryant and Berth Wyllie. For the non-dancers, progressive card tournaments were played. The supper tables were prettily decorated with masses of gay spring flowers. Among those present were:—Mr. and Mrs. C. J. LILIAN EDGER IS SPEAKER A drawingroom meeting of the Mothers’ Thought Guild was held at the residence of Mrs. Hemus on the first Tuesday in the month, as usual. Miss Lilian Edger, M.A., after answering some questions about the League of Nations, gave a most inetersting talk on “Truth.” She spoke of the necessity of truth in thought and deed, as well as in word, and stressed the fact that this required most careful attention in one’s relation with children. A general discussion brought a most enjoyable meeting to a close. ENGAGEMENTS Tlio engagement is announced of Marjorie Jane, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. K.
