FERNWOOD DUE SATURDAY P.M.— Carrying bitumen and general cargo from Gulf of Mexico ports, the Norwegian motor-ship Fernwood is expected to arrive at Auckland on Saturday evening, and will later proceed to Gisborne, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Sydney, and Melbourne. Loading for Sydney and Melbourne will be done at this port. Her local agent is Henderson and Macfarlane. PARRAKOOLA IN PORT.—Late last night the Swedish motor-vessel Parra - koola arrived in port from Scandinavia, via the Pacific Coast, en route to Australia, and sell berthed at Queen’s Wharf this morning. The ship has a cargo of granite blocks, paper and general meri ehandise from Scandinavian ports and general cargo from Los Angeles and San Francisco. She also brought 1,600 cases of bananas and a quantity of copra from i Niue Island, where she called en route to Auckland on September 5. She is discharging all her cargo from Niue at this port, together with the local portion of her other cargo. The vessel also has 21 passengers from San Franciso, one of whom disembarked here, the others being for Australia, and 895 bags of mail for New Zealand and America, included in which is part of the mail which was to be dispatched from San Francisco by the Tahiti. The Parrakoola had a fair weather passage from Scandinavia down to the Pacific Coast and she cleared San Francisco for Auckland on August 23. For the first 12 hours she proceeded through dense fog, after which visibility cleared and she had a fine weather trip until three days off the New Zealand coast, when she encountered west and southwest gales, accompanied by rough head seas and a heavy westerly swell. These conditions lasted till she reached the coast. After putting out her local consignment of cargo the Parrakoola is to sail for Wellington, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania to complete discharge. She will then load wool and wheat at Australian ports for Europe. The Parrakoola is commanded by Captain H. Carlson.
