MR. G. F. THOMPSON
The death of Mr. George Frederick Thompson, one of the best-known residents of the borough, occurred at Taumarunui on Saturday. Born in Nottingham 52 years ago. Mr. Thompson came to New Zealand in 1911. and in partnership with his brother. Mr. Wallace Thompson, of Taumarunui, carried on a plumbing business at Ohura. He later removed to Taumarunui. where he established a business of his own. Mr. Thompson was highly specialised in his occupation, and liis technical knowledge in connection with municipal works made his services valuable to the town, which he served well. He was a borough councillor on several occasions, and twice stood for the mayoralty. As a supporter of football and a member of the Labour movement. Mr. Thompson did great service. He was a Past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge, and at the time of his death held the office of secretary. A widow and four daughters are left.
