HOLIDAY TRAIN SMASH

HUNDRED IN HOSPITAL IN ENGLAND STORM SPOILS FIXTURES LONDON, Tuesday. Serious accidents, including 24 fatal cases, marred yesterday’s bank holiday in England. Two trains from Blackpool collided, with the result that 100 people were sent to hospital. It was the wettest August bank holiday experienced for 10 years, and many holiday makers were driven indoors. Gales and thunderstorms made bathin- and boating almost impossible. The King’s yacht Britannia was withdrawn from the day’s racing at Cowes. There were only two other competitors, of which one finished. Scores of visitors arrived at seaside restorts carrying coats which were soaked before their departure. The majority of the sports meetings were cancelled. Holiday - makers at Hampsted Heath, however, kept up the tradi ti'iiial Cockney jollifications.
