COUPLE STRUCK DOWN

MR. AND MRS. G. KNIGHT HIT BY MOTOR-VAN BOTH RECEIVE INJURIES Mr. and Mrs. George Knight, of Asquith Avenue, Mouut Albert, both received severe head and other in-

juries when they were struck by a motor-van in the New North Road last evening. They are both suffering from shock. The St. John Ambulance took them to the Auckland Hospital. 'This morning Mrs. Knight’s condition was serious, though Mr. Knight has improved. While Mr. and Mrs. Knight were crossing the New North Read at the corner of Gladstone Road at about 9.30 o’clock, a light motor-van being driven toward the city by Mr Hutchinson, of West Coast Road. Glen Eden, struck them, and they were knocked down. Mr. Knight was found to be suffering from injuries to the head and to one leg, and from shock, and Mrs. Knight had head injuries and a fractured collarbone, in addition to shock. Mr. Knight, who is 82 years of age, was a member of the City Council for 26 years, retiring at the last election in 1929.
