Xapuna did a round at half pace and then another at three-quarter pace. He appears to have benefited by Saturday’s race and is distinctly a possible leight-weight in the Steeples. W. Cooper will again ride him. x Snowfall walked lame on the track i esterday. and his National prospects do not look bright. His showing on Saturday was disappointing, bat he can do better than that, and if he throws off his lameness before Tuesday lie may be found staying on over tho last round. when some of the others are failing. If he starts his rider will again be F. Langford. National Fancies Arrive Among tho arrivals from the North this morning were the Grand National candidates Matu, Omeo and Corneroff. Also on the Wahine were other members of Mrs. A. McDonald’s team— Llyn Du, Blue Paper, Airforce and Potoa form. A. McDonald, who is engaged to ride Aurora Borealis in the Steeplechase, arrived this morning. R. Coveny has been engaged for Full Feather in tin* Winter Cup, and ho will also pilot the other members of the Chokebore team—Semper Paratus and Owlsttight—in their engagements. AN’. Silver Paper has been eased up in his work and will not bo started al the meeting. Lancer May Be Spelled Lancer is causing Trainer H. Nurse a good deal of anxiety, as a splint has made its appearance and is causing considerable inflammation. The chance of his going to the post next week is now remote, and it is possible he will have to be given a spell. Gala Day was nominated for the minor steeplechases at the Grand National meeting, but R W. King has now abandoned tho idea of racing him next week. Aberfeldy, however, may bo seen out in the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap. Up fill 4 o’clock today there had boeu no further scratchings for the meeting.

RICHFIELD GOES LEAVES FOR AUSTRALIA JOCKEY BARRY WILL RENEW ACQUAINTANCES Mr. W. Patterson and (!. Edgecombe leave Hawera with Richfield today for Wellington, en route to Australia. Richfield is in great fettle and has been doing his work in attractive style. He will be ridden in his engagements by J. Barry. In races up to a mile the Taranaki galloper should do well on the other

Jamieson's team and on that occasion he was pilloried by certain writers, who could not criticise his riding enough. Of course, certain critics on the other side do not hesitate to make New Zealand trainers and riders fair game for their biased attacks. WINTER CUP FAVOURITE LEAVES HAWERA EARLY QUOTATIONS Havering is to leave Havvera today for Riccarton. He will take his place in the Winter Cup field, and will be ridden by H. Wiggins. Ever since his fine form at the Welling! n meeting last month Havering has been the outstanding favourite for the Winter Cup. In certain straightout quotations he has been at a cramped figure well below double figures. On the latter mark were Black Best Friend, Full Feather, and Staghunter. while another couple of points away were Limosin. Ranelagh and Toxeuma (the last-named has now advanced to equal favourite with Hav ering). On the next line, four points away, were Silver Paper. Taboo. Tour ist and The Raider, with the next group comprising Arikinui Duellona. Nancy Lee, Otairi (who is a doubtful starter), ard* Starshooter.
