RIALTO, NEWMARKET
TWO FINE TALKIES A great diversity of settings figure in “Little Johnny Jones” at the Rialto Theatre, starting in a small town, it goes to New York, giving a moving panorama of the night life in the theat rical circles of the Big Town. Then the scene shifts to the slums of Liverpool and the London waterfront, where our jockey, disgraced in America, has gone to hide and to work Cor another chance. And that chance comes at the historic Epsom Downs racecourse, when he rides to victory on the American horse Yankee. “Little Johnny Jones” is a picture for everybody. It was directed by Mervyn Le Roy, and among the favourites in the cast are Edna Murphy. Donald Reed, Robert Edeson, Wheeler Gakman, Raymond Turner (the inimitable coloured comedian) and many others equally noted. “Charming Sinners,” the second attraction on the Rialto’s programme, is a clever comedy of London society life, starring Ruth Chatterton and Clive Brook.
