FORECAST OF DROP IN REVENUE DEPUTATION TO MINISTER" Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The suggestion that the Government, in its own interests, as well as in the interests of the racing clubs, should refrain from#imposing the extra 2J per cent, totalisator-tax, -was made to the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, yesterday, by a deputation representing the New Zealand Sports Protection League.' the New Zealand Racing Conference, the N< w Zealand Trotting Conference, and members of kindred sports bodies. It was pointed out that in the opinion of racing clubs there would be a drop of £3,000,000 in the revenue in the next five years if the taxation were imposed. In reply the Prime Minister said he would give consideration to the question, but he pointed out that his immediate need was for increased revenue. “I will see that the Gaming Bill this session gets as good a run as possible, and I wish it every success when it comes before the House,” he said. He felt it only a fair thing that the clubs should be able to receive investments by telegraph. He though the measure a reasonable one, and one that would not increase gambling, but keep it in legitimate channels.
