FAITHFUL METHODISTS

DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL WINDOWS I Memorial windows recently fitted in the Birkenhead Methodist Church were dedicated yesterday afternoon at a special service. The ceremony was performed by Mr. A. Peak, vice-presi-dent of the Methodist Conference. All the windows of the church have been replaced with leadlights of beautiful design, which give a pleasing effect, and enhance the atmosphere of the interior. This work has been undertaken to mark the occasion of the jubilee of the church, which was celebrated recently. Mr. Peak, in his address, said: “It appeals to me as being a fitting conclusion to the recent thanksgiving celebrations in connection with the jubilee of the establishment of this cause, that you should gather together with the express object of doing honour to the memory of these faithful labourers in God’s vineyard. Tne form of that memorial —these beautifully designed windows for the sanctuary permitting the light of the sun to stream through—is suggestive and symbolical of the endeavour of those whose service is perpetuated, to let their light shine through their love and loyalty to their Lord and Master, for all who enter here to worship. There will be thrown into relief the names of these honoured servants of past days, who worshipped and laboured here.

“I have not a personal knowledge of all .whose memory we honour today,” continued Mr. Peak. “I was not a contemporary but I am fortunate in being able to claim personal acquaintance with three 1 , and concerning one, to testify to his direct influence for good on my own life by mv early association with him in his Christian service. The windows are in memory to Mr. and Mrs. John Dickens. Mr. and Mrs. John Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. White, Mr. Alfred Lovell White, Mr. and Mrs. Cuckson and William Cuckson, and Mr. Tom Hadfield.” After reading out the names, Mr. Peak declared the windows dedicated to the service of the sanctuary, with a final tribute to those whose names are inscribed thereon. The Rev. W. W. Avery also addressed the large number present.
