ORANGEMEN’S SERVICE
OBJECTS OF THE INSTITUTION Orangemen from various lodges attended a special service in Balmoral Presbyterian Church last evening. Preaching from the text taken from Xehemiah, iv„ 2, Mr. Gllmour said, in part, that he always looked upon Luther as being himself the Reformation. He was a powerful and dynamic personality which came upon the stage of history when it was set for an epoch-making revolution in the thought and life of the civilised world. Luther succeeded in wresting from the Church that vast temporal power which had made kings mere vasals of the Pope, and governments mere pawns of the political intrigues of the Vatican. His revolt had given the form, substance and permanence which accounted for the Protestantism of today. In the emphasis of Protestantism upon liberty of conscience, upon democracy, upon a strict moral code, there were distinctive values of great import to the civilised world, l and these values must be preserved. I Sometimes the principles and ideals of i the Orange Association had been misi represented and misunderstood. ! Orangeism's only rule of faith was - brotherhood and justice and love. ! The Orange Institution stood for equal rights, and equal liberties and i equal opportunities for all men, no ' matter what their religious outlook, i or their political bias, and to attain ! such an end, Orangemen were now, and always, ready to co-operate with those differing from them, but who | were anxious for the establishment , of principles that made for the safety j ' and welfare of all mankind. There ; should be, however, unswerving i loyalty to the Crown and Constitu- ; tion, and a readiness to extend to all men that liberty of conscience and i worship which was the inherent right \ of every citizen of the State.
