THEODORE’S FIX

CORRECTS HASTY WORDS IN PARLIAMENT URGED TO GO TO COURT Rec.d. 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY. Today. Mr. E. G. Theodore, who was held censurable by a Royal Commission in connection with mining lease deals iu Queensland, has announced that he is taking no further part in the Federal Parliament until he. clears his name. He will therefore remain away pending the Queensland Government’s decision on the subject of its next move. The daily Press in Sydney and Melbourne expresses the view that Mr Theodore was unwise in describing Mr. Justice Campbell as a political hireling, and it insists that the Queensland Government should take definite action along the lines suggested by him. The official Labour organ in Sydney, the “Labour Daily,” says there is only one way. Mr. Theodore must go Into the witness box and give evidence on oath. The solicitors who appeared for Mr. W. McCormack, Mr. P. L. Goddard aud Mr. F. Reid at the inquiry declared today that there was no foundation for Mr. E. G. Theodore's statement in the House of Representatives, yesterday that they, with Mr. Theodore’s counsel, had in any way criticised the findings of the commission or had described it as scandalous. Mr. Theo Uore had been entirely misinformed. A message from Canberra says Mr Theodore corrected his statement in the House today. He said it had been based on a telephone message, which, he was now convinced, was incorrect.
