REPLACING PLAYERS

AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE RULING POSITION IN SECOND HALF “That any player being injured in the first spell can be replaced up to the starting of the second spell, providing such player is either off the playing field injured, or is being attended to for injuries, at the time of ringing the bell for the first spell to end/’ This is the text of a minute appearing on the books of the Auckland Rugby Football League of July 25. 1923. It was read to the members of the management committee last evening, as a result of an incident which occurred at the Domain a fortnight ago. in which a player was replaced when the second half commenced, and a copy of it is to be sent to all the Auckland clubs.

A letter was received from the Referees’ Association asking when the new rule books would be available. The advisory committee recommended that the letter be referred to the council of the New Zealand League. Mr. R. Doble. a member of the council, stated that arrangements were at present in train for the publication of the new books, and these might be available in a month’s time. The advisory committee’s recommendation was adopted LATE STARTING A protest was received from the Ellerslio Club on the delay caused in its match on Saturday with City, when the City team and referee we r P late 1 in arriving on the ground. The Kllerslio delegate thought that some action should be taken when teams were late in arriving at the ground. He considered that if one team was more than 15 minutes late, the other team should be awarded the match automatically. Tho chairman. Mr. G. Rhodes, said that there was no rule governing the point, and no action could be taken unless Ellerslie protested. The Ellerslie delegate said his club would not protest. The committee* decided that a letter be sent to all clubs stressing the importance of teams turning out on time, and warning them that action will be taken in cases where the 15 minutes’ gr-'ce was broken.
