In a setting of delightfully arranged balloons, streamers and native greenery, many dancers spent a delightful time at the annual ball conducted bv the Post and Telegraph employees of Matiere. * * * Among hostesses who have recently given bridge parties are Airs. Reardon, and at Mrs. White’s residence the Bridge Club held its usual afternoon. * * * In a drawing-room very prettilv decorated with holy, Air. and Mrs. A. G. Kenderdine, of Taumarunui, entertained a number of old friends «to meet Mr. and Mrs. T. Kenderdine, who were recently married in Auckland. To receive her guests the hostess wore a charming gown of black crepe de chine with* an overdress of black ninon, relieved with white. Mrs. T. Kenderdine wore white satin beaute embroidered with gold, and Miss G. Kenderdine was attired in a frock of pink flowered taffeta, trimmed with pink ninon. During the evening dancing and music were indulged in. * * In the Kaitieke hall, organised in aid of the local tennis club, a very popular dance attracted numerous visitors, and the financial results, were very satisfactory. In aid of the Plunket Society, the delightful Japanese, operetta, “Princess Chrysanthemum,” was presented in the Theatre Royal, Taumarunui, and was a great financial success, due to tho organising ability of Mrs. D. King and Mrs. Ij. G. Godfrey. The principal parts were taken bv Miss B. Jefferson (Princess Chrysanthemum), Miss M. Davis (Prince'SoTru), Miss G. King (Prince So-Sli), Miss I. Lawrence (Fairy Sunbeam), Miss P. Ryan (Fairy Moonbeam), Mr A. ICinnell (Emperor What-For-Why), Mr. E. Parker (Top-Not), and Mr. H. C. Harcourt (Saucer Eyes, the Wizard Cat).
