MUNRO RETURNING
SYDNEY JOCKEY TO RIDE IN j GERMAN DERBY i In a letter to a friend, the Sydney < jockey, J. Munro, who is riding with success in Germany, said that he would j irrive back in New South Wales about < the middle of December. Although ’ Munro had contracted not to be called j upon to ride under Sst. 51b., he said i that he was not putting on weight, and 1 that when he got home again he ex- , pected to be able to make Sst. comfortably, and he may even ride at a little less w'eight. In a cable re- * ceived by his mother last week, Munro said that Alba, on which he won the Union Stakes, known as the Berlin Derby, was favourite for the German Derby, which would be decided on June 29. Munro was anxious to ride in i England before returning to his native | land. HIGH DISDAIN RESUMING Many contend that .High Disdain was most, unlucky to lose the last Doncaster Handicap, in which he ran second. However, he proved himself a better horse last autumn than his former deeds indicated. He has been spelling a.t the his trainer, J. Kingsley, but was to have resumed work this week at Randwick,
measurements he would not be easy to beat for bis age. Mr. P. A. Swney has Taumai bowling along in fine style. The three races lie won at the Auckland winter meeting seem to have improved him. He may be listed as a sure starter for Trentham, but whether he will journey on to Ricearton will be a subject for later consideration. There is every reason to believe that j Black Maire will be racing again about j September. ITe has done a fair amount j of work during the winter and is again sound in wind and limb. It is probable that the enforced rest he had in j the autumn has been in his favour, and i if so, he should pay his way in handicap company next season. G. Reid has taken Glenstar, Valstreet and Marble King over to the Waipa meeting, while A. Cox and C R. Wallace will be represented by Glenison and White Ringlet re-
