PROFESSOR BELSHAW IS HOST Students and tutors had a very enjoyable time at a gathering of the Political Economy Circle, given by Professor Belshaw at his residence on Saturday evening. Gravity and serious thought* were laid aside and a very jolly time was spent in games, interspersed with music. Among those present were: Professor and Mrs. Belshaw. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Rodwell, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson, Mr. S. O. Shearer, and a large number of advanced students of the arts and commerce faculties of the university.

MEETING OF BRANCHES A cheery wood fir© made the War Memorial Library at Albany look inviting when the members of the Women’s Institute gathered for their monthly meeting. After the business was disposed of. Airs. Stevenson gave a demonstration of basket-making. There was a good attendance of members and a very pleasant time was spent by all. FIRST AIEETING AT EDGECUMBE The Edgecumbe Women’s Institute held its first meeting at Airs. Hall's residence last week. Airs. Eccles presided and in spite of bad weather there was a good attendance. Six new members were enrolled. Airs. Cobden and Airs. Beattie, from the Otakiri Institute, were also present and the latter gave a very interesting demonstration of fancy bead-threading. Articles made from sugar bags by members were displayed and sold for the funds, also a necklace presented by Airs. Beattie. The hostesses were Mesdames .7. Gow, G. Colebrok, Alextcd and Horwell. ANNIVERSARY AT SILVERDALE Tho Silverdale Women's Institute celebrated its second anniversary on Saturday. The hall was decorated with pink flowers and maidenhair fern. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions, a tennis competition arranged by Mrs. Bartlett, being won by Airs. Alacßae. The opportunity was taken to welcome Aliss Faithfull, who has recently been appointed district nurse at Silverdale. Afternoon tea was served, and the birthday cake, which was given by Aliss Bay ley, was cut by the president, Airs. Bartlett. CARD AFTERNOON STANLEY BAY CROQUET CLUB At Iho Ngutaringa Tennis Club's pavilion on MSonda.y afternoon the Stanley Bay Croquet Club gave a very enjoyable card afternoon.
