AUSTRALIA’S TAXATION IS £l4 A HEAD FEVERISH SPENDING ERA United P.A.s-By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.35 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The expenditure by Australia’s various governing bodies during the last financial year was more than half the value of all the production during that period. The Federal Government spent £ 51.000.000. the six State Governments £ 121,000,000. and the 1.05 S local governing bodies spent £36,500.000. The total value of Australian production for the same period was £455,000,000. During the year 1925-29, the taxation by Australian Governments combined amounted to £55.750.000, compared with £45,000,000 10 years ago. In other words, the taxation per head last year by the Commonwealth and States amounted to £l4 a head of the population. BASIC WAGE DROPS Reed. 11.5 a.m. PERTH, Today. The basic wage for men workers has been reduced bv one shilling to £4 6s. The rates for country districts is established at £4 ss; adult females in the metropolitan area will receive £2 6s sd. and in tile country £2 5s lid a week.
