CAUGHT ON RETURN TRIP

SPEEDSTER FINED £4 An assurance from William Scott Wilson that travelling along the Great South Road in a motor-car at 50 miles an hour was quite safe did not impress Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., at the Otahuhu Court yesterday afternoon. In imposing a fine of £ 4 and costs 10s, the magistrate said there was an element of potential suicide in travelling at 50 miles an hour, and approaching a bus setting down passengers. Inspector A. Breed, of the Otahuhu Council, said defendant travelled south earlier in the day, but neither he nor his assistant could get his number on account of the speed. No mistake was made on the return journey and he was timed over a measured quarter of a mile. His speed averaged 50 miles an hour. While travelling through the trap he passed a stationary bus setting down passengers.
