QUARRY WORKER HURT

A premature explosion during blasting operations at the Halswell qua: - ries caused Mr. Frederick Joseph Sparks, aged 50, to be hurled down a slope from the top of the quarry. He was admitted to the hospital with a broken arm and three broken ribs and suffering from severe shock. A gang of men had placed a shot in the face of the rook and A!r. Sparks was allotted the duty of firing the charge. Before lie got clear the charge exploded unexpectedly and he was hurled down with a mass of rock. Fortunately he was not carried to the bottom of the qflarry.
