Next Outing for Northern Winner

HAWKE’S BAY HURDLES KING’S JEST ENTERED What weight will the Great Northern Hurdles’ winner, King’s Jest, be given in the Hawke’s Bay Hurdles, run at Hastings on Saturday week? It can safely be assumed that he will have a pretty stiff impost, for the opposition is weak. Perle de Leon is one of them, and oldtimers in Nukumai and Wharncliffe, who may not be so good now as they were a couple of years ago, have also been nominated. The others engaged are very moderate. However, if the weight is not prohibitive and the field weak, King’s Jest may be allowed to take his chance. If it is decided to keep him in his box next week, the King Mark gelding may not be seen in action again until the Wellington winter meeting, nominations for which close next Monday. The following are the nominations received for the Hawke’s Bay J.C. winter meeting on Friday and Saturday of next week: FIRST DAY Woodlands Steeplechase Handicap, 2 miles.—Sir Moment, Tamworth, Flying Swift, Bendower, Kaiakaua, Kovna, Kowhatu, Abisogne, Master Arch, Corneroff, Helcullus, Timipouri, Wilmoreana, Jen, Wyeford, Bon Ary on, Winigan. WAIPA CLUB On Friday night a committee meeting of the Waipa. Racing Club was held to further matters, in connection with the special totalisator race meeting on June 28 at Te Awamutu. Mr. A. S. Wallace presided and there were also present Messrs. F. Quin (president), H. Weal, S. G. Martin, C. F. Storey, J. S. Young, S. A. Empson and J. G. Wynyard (secretary). Apologies lor absence were received from Messrs. A. H. Storey, W. Alexander and J. P. O’Sullivan. The Racing Conference has allotted December 13 for the Waipa Club’s annual race meeting next racing season. The club has been advised by the Conference that the two floating totalisator permits had been permanently allocated to Taumarunui and Wliangarei Club, and unless one of the present clubs holding totalisator permits forfeit one there will be no more available and therefore it would be needless for clubs seeking additional permits to send representatives to the Conference. The allocation was made permanent with the full approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Arrangements for the publicans’ and luncheon booths were left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. It was reported that the Government’s refund of £250 from taxation on last December’s race meeting had been received. After consideration it was decided that the charge for women be amended as follows:—To course, 2s; enclosure, 3s; course and enclosure, ss. The admission for men will remain the same as hithei’to. A canteen of cutlery, valued at £4O. will be allotted as a special trophy for the Hunters’ Steeplechase event at this month’s race meeting. The Railway Department asked for a guarantee of £B4 13s 4d for the running of a special train from Auckland. The secretary was instructed to protest against such a guarantee being made. The tender of S. N. Parkinson for the erection of additional stalls for horses at the racecourse was accepted. The track committee was instructed to make the necessary arrangements for the steeplechase jumps and also for improvements to the booth.
