"ABRAHAM LINCOLN”
D. W. GRIFFITH’S MASTERPIECE D. W. Griffith’s Clansmen swept across the screen in ‘ The Birth of a Nation” and their ride became an item in the history of screen composition and photography. Once more the horses will gallop, swift cavalrymen will charge, and Sheridan won't be twenty miles away when the charge is ended. That famous ride—ranking well up with Mr. Revere’s jaunt is being pictured and recorded in “Abrah n m Lil coin,” Griffith’s first all-nll-talking picture. Cannon will roar and shells burst, as they did in “The Birth of a Nation.” The noise will be made in Northern California, locations having been picked. Sets for Lincoln’s log-cabin birthplace, the towns of New Salem and Springfield, Illinois, and other locales are being erected within SO miles of Hollywood. Mobile sound units are being employed for the recording. Walter Huston has the role of Lincoln. Una Merkel that of Ann Rutledge. Stephen Vincent Benet, author of “John Brown’s Body.” epic poem, wrote the story and dialogue for the Lincoln film. His story takes Lincoln from the log cabin that was his birthplace to the theatre in which he was assassinated.
