WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP RACE TODAY ARRY VERSUS PHELP Today, on the famous Thames course ; from Putney to Mortlake, H. A. Barry, j the present holder of the title, will j meet E. Plielps for the sculling cliam- i pionship of the world. Both are pro- j minent English sculleus and Barry j ■svon the title from Major Goodsell at Vancouver in 1928, after a second ; challenge. There was no challenge for ■ the championship last year. Both Australia and New Zealand i have figured prominently in world’s | sculling championships since 1576, in j which year Edward Trickett, of New South AVales, won the title lor his country. More recently, L’Arcy Hadfleld, New Zealand, and James Pad- ! don, Australia, were holders of the j title, the championship leaving this part of the world when Paddon resigned the title in 1924. Goodsell won from J. I*. Hannan (New Zealand), and | Paddon made an unsuccessful attempt to regain it in 1925. Barry was beaten by Goodsell at Vancouver in 1927, but was successful in winning the championship t'ne following year.
