OYER 170 LIN ES LOST IN RANGOON RIOTS

POLICE OFFICER BEATEN United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.15 a.m. DELHI, Friday. The deaths in Rangoon now total 174. There are signs of improvement, and the shops and bazaars are opening. British police officials and civilians at Daca. East Bengal and Howrah, near Calcutta, were attacked by riotous mobs yesterday. The superintendent of police at Dacca was thrown down and beaten, and his revolver was taken from him. He was then thrown into a ditch. Europeans who attempted to rescue him were severely beaten. Railway wagons at Howrah were set on fire and the station was bombarded with stones. The police fired their revolvers and dispersed the angry mob. Some of the railway officials and police were severely injured by stones.

There were three fatal assaults on Burraaus yesterday. The Indian leaders and Buddhist priests are endeavouring to restore peace.
