INSURANCE HEAD DIES

MR. VICTOR MURRAY WAS WELL KNOWN • HIGH BUSINESS STANDING After a long association with the South British Insurance Company, which earned him the respect and friendship of business men in many parts of the world, Mr. Victor Murray, who has been in ill-health in recent months, died at his residence in Dromorne Road, Remuera, yesterday. He was 74 years of age. Mr. Murray was born in Lanark - shire, Scotland and joined the South British Insurance Company when he was 31 years of age. He was manager for the company in the Far Bast, with headquarters at Calcutta, and he there earned a high reputation in finance and business. He was an honoured man in official and commercial circles" in India. He was in the habit of paying visits to New Zealand, and on retiring in 1916 he Was appointed to the London board of directors. In 192*: he came to the Dominion and took up residence at Auckland Shortly after his arrival in Auckland Mr. Murray joined the head office board of directors, and he gave the benefit of his valuable business experience until his death, which closed an association with the company which had lasted 43 years. Because of his high intellect and pleasing disposition, his death will be felt keenly by many friends. He was a member of the Northern Club, the Auckland Racing Club and the Oriental Club, London. Flags were flown at half-mast in his memory from several City buildings yesterday. Mr. Murray is survived by Mrs. Murray, a son, Mr. Victor W. Murray, of Calcutta, and two daughters. Mrs. .7. Le Cocq. of Calcutta, and Mrs. F. M. Short, of Auckland.
