RICCARTON DOINGS
TRIALS FOR WINGATUI AMORIST IN GOOD ORDER Special to THE Sl'X CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Work was late in starting at Riecarton this morning and only a little fast galloping was clone. No. 7 grass track, on which the distances are short, was available. The best six furlongs of the morning was Ranelagh’s. The Arrowsmiili gelding went out with Troilus to d«* seven furlongs, but his mate was of no use to him and he cleared out. doing the last six furlongs in 1.15 o--'» and finishing about a dozen lengths in the lead. This trial puts him in lino for a good chance in the Brighton Handicap at Dunedin on Saturday, and he may turn the tables on Straightcourse, who at 41b better terms was too fast for him at the end of their race at Amber ley. Knockany, Miss Bradbury and Gasrange (late Gasring) were associated in a useful task over five furlongs. The first-named broke away best and had a small advantage at the end over Miss Bradbury, Gasrange being three lengths back. The time was 1.2 2-5. Going to Otaki Sapient and Arrowmaid went half a mile in 50 1-5, and both were doing it well at the finish. Sapient and her stablemate, Audience, are going to Otaki, where they will be ridden by A. Messervey. Arrowmaid is going to Dunedin. Starshooter and Haze worked together over six furlongs, doing the distance in 1.16 3-5, the last five in 1.4. Both are going to Dunedin, and the former should be very hard in the Brighton Handicap in spite of big weight, for he narrowly missed bringing about the defeat of Arikiwai at Ashburton. Royal Mint and Rascal, who are also booked for Dunedin, worked over six furlongs, -but were not doing their best in 1.19 2-5. Amorist, alone, improved the time by two seconds immediately afterward. The Australian-bred hurdler is not without a chance in the June Hurdles on Saturday, for with 9.S he is very nicely weighted and reads
much better than some of those above him. Pangolin, who Is to contest the June Hurdles, was sent over a mile, being clocked at 1.22 for the last six furlongs. The son of Panmure looks well, but may not yet be quite ready for a winning effort. Zeuxis, Garvary, Hyperion and Discourse did not go to Dunedin. Subdivision, Tripaway. Radiate, Waterline, Semper Paratus, Full Feather and Straightcourse left yesterday and others go today. A. E. Ellis rides Arikiwai, Rin Tin Tin, Palermo and Wingatui.
