BREAKING AND ENTERING ALLEGED
GIRL’S FLIGHT WITH MEN Alleged to have broken into a shop at Rangiom, North Canterbury, William Porter and Leslie Charles Burke were remanded at the Police Court this morning until Monday. Porter, aged 22, and Burke, aged 23, both labourers, were charged with breaking and entering the shop of Victor Pulley and committing a theft on May 13. Mavis Vi thell, a music teacher, aged 19, was said by Chief-Detective Hammond to have ruu away from home and accompanied the two accused. She was charged with being idle and disorderly, having insufficient lawful means of support. The chief-detective added that the girl had left her home in Christchurch, and was living in a house with the accused. She had an uncle and aunt in Auckland, with whom she could stay until her father or mother came to take her home. The girl gave an assurance that she would not attempt to leave her uncle's home, and the case was adjourned for a month. Porter and Burke are alleged to have been connected with a recent series of burglaries in and around Christchurch. They were arrested in the city last evening by Detectives Hunt, Moon, and Hayes.
