KING COUNTRY NEWS
At. a by--election to elect on commissioner for the Ohura Town Board, made necessary* by the resignation of Mr. J. V. Seer up. Mr. W. S. Coombridgo was elected by* a substantial majority. Mr. J. May was the second candidate.
Mr. U. M. Rushworth, M.P. for Bay of Islands, is at present visiting the King Country- and addressing meetings of farmers and others in the interests of the Country Party. The subject of his address is “The Political and Economic Situation in New Zealand Today*.”
The Matiero Hall Society (Mr. O. Stewart, chairman) had a very successful result at the opening of the new building. The total proceeds from the banquet and dance were over £56. The executive has resolved to instal a special lighting plant in the hall.
The Manunui Town Board has resolved to appoint its own official to carry* out minor electrical work under the Taumarunui borough engineer, Mr. H. F. McLeod. 4
At the annual meeting of the Ohura County* Council two nominations for chairman, Crs. F. Romayne and C. B. Fullerton-Smith, were received. The voting resulted in “evens,” and the choice was made by lot, Cr. Romayne being successful. The clerk. Mr. J. F. McClenaghan, presided over a full meeting.
Two trophy events were decided at a shoot conducted by the King Country Gun Club, on the Kaitieke Domain. The final for the Sherlaw Rose Bowl resulted in a win for F. Me* Fadyen. This competitor also won the championship cup. Several sweepstake shoots were held.
