DISGUSTED IN COMMONS
MAN SEES LONDON AFTER FIFTY YEARS AWAY
DECLINE OF ORATORY LONDON, May 23. Fifty-one year ago, John Hooton, who was then aged 18, and was almost penniless, was passing through London on his way from Northampton to Australia. He told himself: “One day, when I am rich, I will return, and see all London’s wonders.” Today he is doing it. He has seen the House of Commons, in which he was so moved by the decay of oratory that he almost threw' down his card and said: “Let me have a go!” He likes Londoners so far as he has seen them, but is ashamed and disgusted at the taximen, of whom three attempted to swundle him. He intends to make a walking tour to Northhampton. j
