BOBBY IONES SURVIVES IN CHAMPIONSHIP

Recti. 1.45 p.m. LONDON, Tliurs. 111 the amateur golf championship the ex-Australian champion, Michael Scott, defeated the American Walker Cup player, Von Elm, at the 20th hole.
In the sixth round Bobby Jones beat Johnson, the American amateur champion, one up. Grant, St. George’s, beat Scott three up and one to play. Bobby Jones had another narrow escape, only beating Johnson by a ticklish putt on the last green. Jones, when four up with five to play, looked an easy winner, but Johnson fought back gamely till Jones was dormy one. Ten thousand people rushed to see the dramatic finish.
Jones and Voight are the only American left in the last eight, and these two will meet tomorrow.
