SOUTH AUCKLAND LEAGUE
MR. R. T. HILL’S OPINIONS From Our Own Correspondent TAUPIRI, Today. Interviewed by THE SUN correspondent at Taupiri, Mr. R. T. Hill, the manager of the South Auckland representative team playing against Auckland on Saturday, at Carlaw Park, eaid he was quite satisfied with the team selected. He considered the strength of the team sufficient to beat the Auckland team, but at the same time he considered that several players had bsen overlooked. The manager then commented on the players individually, and said he considered Garry should have been given an opportunity to come before the selectors as fullback in place of Raynor, who, while still a good player, has almost had his day. Kelly, the manager sincerely hoped, would compare favourably with Pat Miki, who has always been a favourite of the spectators. “Maud" Scott, of Huntly, would have played a better game as a forward. Tittleton, he remarked, deserved every consideration as a New Zealand representative, for he has age, weight and ability in his favour. “Brownie" Paki, if he is on his game, is an excellent player. It would be difficult to find a better man. Abbott, as halfback for South Auckland, is an exception to the rule, being able to play anywhere in the backs. He is considered a likely man for the trip to Australia. “Nigger" Williams is another idol of the South Auckland team, and is well deserving of consideration. Jack Jones, at the back of the forwards, is a master-mind, and will no d<jubt be selected as captain of the South Auckland representatives. PAST REP. PLAYERS
Tommy Timms represented New Zealand on the last tour and the team's manager considers there is no reason why he should not be considered this time. Joe Menzies, too. is another New Zealand representative, having
gone to the British Isles on the l tour there. 1 Quinn, a representative from ilton. has many abilities, and shmJbe given an opportunity. Bob Stenhi, 1 son will be the hooker. Dick Tram* vetter is also worthy of con si derat in having every ability required forward. 3 4 The team will arrive in Auckland by the train due at 11.15 on Saturday. The manager players will be pleased to meet South Auckland players. While Auckland the party will stay at th Commercial Hotel.
