ZEPPELIN SLOWED UP IN ATLANTIC RUN ; NEARING RIO DE JANEIRO Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK. Sunday. I A message from Pernambuco say a the Graf Zeppelin departed for Rio I* de Janeiro at 11.52 p.m. Brazil time on Friday. The Graf Zeppelin was badly shaken f by heavy rain squalls* in the night, I and was considerably slowed up in her passage along the coast. She passed over Bahia at 7.15 a.m. and Mucury at 5.10 p.m., having then | accomplished three-fourths of the ! journey. According to expectations i the vessel should have completed her ! trip by then. It is reported the delay has been due to the intense heat which expanded the i pyrofax gas around midday, i The flight will be 1.100 miles long j and will take about 20 hours. A message from Parnambuco sava the Graf Zeppelin is expected to arrive early on Sunday morning, after leaving Rio de Janeiro at 6.52 a.m. standard time, since when it has been reported regularly along the northward course. Considerable criticism is heard at. Rio de Janeiro concerning Dr. Eckener’s apparent change of plans, which caused thousands of anxious watchers to miss seeing the dirigible. The airship arrived over the city’s outskirts early in the morning, but instead of landing proceeded southward to Santos. The crowds left their points of vantage and returned home disappointed, but later the Graf Zeppelin returned and landed at the Compo Affonsos airdrome at 5 a.m. for a brief stop. The ship landed without trouble, despite the unfamiliarity of the ground crew with so large an airship.
